Simon was a Virtue Peer who received enlightenment only at the shrine of Honor before realizing he could never succeed as the Avatar had. He supported his family for a few years in Trinsic, but as the years passed be became frustrated and lost his enlightenment. He became a drunkard who took his frustrations out on his children, Balthan and Althea.

He was said to have put out as a common seaman on an eastbound merchant-explorer, but the ship never returned to port. Some believe he simply drowned himself in wine.

Erwald Ironhawk saved his peer's children, bringing them to Hawksnest as his wards and raising them beside his own. When Balthan displayed a talent and desire for magic, he sent him to Moonglow, the city of mages and it's arcane Lycaeum.
