Barbara Ironhawk is the wife of Lord Erwald Ironhawk, and lady of the estate of Hawksnest. They have two children, Jordan and Darrel Hawson. They have also taken in two children of a former Peer as wards, Balthan Wanderson and Althea.

Dramatis Personae[edit]

Erwald's wife and mother of his sons. A Peer in her own right although she received enlightenment at only one of the eight shrines before abandoning her quest. The only child of aging parents and the last of a proud, ancient, but improverished lineage, Barbara inherited the estate and its debts. She married Erwald, and his family's money, willingly and has never regretted her decision.
– from Dramatis Personae (Ultima Saga: The Temper of Wisdom)

Background[edit]

Born Barbara Jormsdattir, her family lands were known as Rosignel. After marrying Erwald Chandeller, they had a new estate build and renamed the land Hawksnest. Now, only the aging former estate, which still houses Lady Barbara's father, bears the Rosignel name. Barbara's mother, Lady Adelaise, died in childbirth, so her daughter was nursed and raised by Agatha who's son was stillborn near the same time.

Barbara is a stately, attractive woman, with light brown tresses. She dresses richly, but not overly oppulent. She is a Virtue Peer, having earned enlightment in Spirituality, but has not sought to further her Peerage.

Lady Barbara displays a keen mind, is practical when dealing with complicated situations, and is protective of those under her care. As Lord Ironhawk shouts at the household staff during their preparations for the Peer Conclave, Barbara passes behind at a discreet distance to ease their minds and soothe feelings. She seems to treat Althea, the ward of her house, as a surrogate daughter. She even protects the girl when the young woman is accosted by the Inquisitor Lohgrin.
