Gregor is the director of the Minoxian branch of the Britannian Mining Company (BMC). He appears in Ultima VII.

Description[edit]

A gruff and imposing man, Gregor appeared conservatively optimistic about the state of Minoc – despite the shock of the double-murders of Frederico and Tania. A devoted member of the Fellowship, Gregor seemed to believe fervently that the group was enacting positive social change throughout Britannia and was hopeful that their presence would continue to bolster the city's booming economy, especially with the future erection of a statue being built in honor of Owen, a shipwright of considerable note. If asked about this project, Gregor would proudly discuss his involvement in arranging the plans with mayor Burnside and his expectations that BMC ore would be used in its construction. While obviously aware of the unrest the statue was causing among members of the local Artisan's Guild, Gregor was quick to dismiss the group's concerns, claiming that they enjoyed causing dissent.[1]

It is not known to what extent Gregor was aware of the abuses being perpetrated against workers by his foreman Mikos or if he had any idea as to the purpose of the blackrock which was being covertly extracted from the local mine, although it seems unlikely that he could have remained in complete ignorance about such happenings.[2][3] As lover to the deeply entangled Fellowship branch leader, Elynor, Gregor was likely instrumental in facilitating the harvest this rare mineral needed to complete the Black Gate – a project of which his mistress was well apprised.[4]

Ultimately, following the dismantling of the Fellowship and the beginning of the Reconstruction, the Britannian Mining Company came under deep scrutiny for its unethical labor practices and Burnside was eventually charged with their reform. While Gregor's eventual fate in light of such changes is ultimately unknown, its seems likely that he would have been among those effected by the investigations.

Trivia[edit]

  • Gregor's romantic involvement with Elynor is a well-hidden secret. The only way to discover this tryst is to catch the two lovers in the act of meeting for a sexual encounter, which draws hostile reactions from both parties.[5]
  • In the SNES-port of Ultima VII, Gregor appears to be using the construction of Owen's statue (which in this version is made of blackrock) to conceal the blackrock mining operations of BMC. In this version of the game, he is also given as the author of a book entitled Blackrock Mining Techniques, which curiously lists his city of origin as Britain.[6][7]
