The Ritual of Armageddon in Ultima IX is a ritual which has the same function as the Armageddon spell from previous entries to the Ultima series, with the same horrible consequences: the end of all life on the planet.

Description[edit]

To start the end of the world, three pieces of blackrock have to be put into the middle of a magical circle, then the words Vas Kal An Mani In Corp Hur Tym have to be spoken in order to destroy the world itself. Once this power of destruction is turned loose, it will burn off the surface of the entire world, leaving nothing apart from dead rock. Only the Barrier of Life can withstand its effects.

The Avatar learned how to perform this Ritual from the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom on the Isle of the Avatar.

Lore[edit]

I have saved the writing of this ritual for the final day before the Practicum is to be delivered to Hawkwind, in fear that it may fall into malevolent or untrained minds. He and I bitterly disagreed on its inclusion, yet at his insistence, the Ritual of Armageddon has been included. In sum, the Ritual of Armageddon unifies all of the tidal forces of life itself: good and evil, law and chaos, sight and sound, fire and water, earth and air, into a singular event to which the temporal world has never been subjected. Its effects are unknown and must remain that way. Stupidity has no greater champion than he who would perform the Ritual of Armageddon.
– from Spellbook (Ultima IX)

Trivia[edit]

  • In the Bob White plot, the ritual would have indeed destroyed the planet.
  • Even though the ritual can be used after reading about it in the Codex, for some reason it doesn't appear in the spellbook.[Clarification needed]
