The Shrine of Honor

Located to the southwest of Trinsic at the shores of the Cape of Heroes lies the Shrine of Honor, dedicated to the virtue of the same name. In earlier times, the shrine had been difficult to reach, with poisonous swamps surrounding it. But the swamps have dried died in later ages, making reaching the shrine now easy.

Meditating at the shrine, the traveler chants the mantra "SUMM", to learn the ways of Honor.

History[edit]

Erected before the Quest of the Avatar, the shrine was difficult to reach in Ultima IV because of a swamp. Meditating at the shrine gave insight into Honor, and elevated the Stranger to partial Avatarhood.

By the time of Ultima V, the Avatar had to prevent the lackeys of Lord Blackthorn from destroying the shrine. The shrine sent the Avatar on a quest to the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom, to understand the true meaning of Honor. Later, the shrine accepted donations for Karma.

By Ultima VI, the Gargoyles had captured the shrine. The Avatar freed the shrine, who in return explained again the meaning of Honor to the Avatar, and was responsible to raise the stats of the party.

In the time of Ultima VII, a swarm of Harpies had defiled the shrine and abducted the son of Lady Tory to it. The Avatar rescued the child and killed the Harpies, cleaning the shrine of their presence.

The Shrine was corrupted in Ultima IX. The Shrine is now located to the South-Southwest of Trinsic.
